Michael Gannon

At an early age I was taken with music and have dedicated much of my life since to exploring and studying the art of sound. My early roots were in blues and classic rock, and from there I branched out into gospel, folk, soul, jazz, funk, and many other wonderful traditions from around the world such as Qawwali, Indian classical, Chinese traditional music, etc. I have come to appreciate the universal elements from these genres that seem to transcend culture, as well as the subtle differences that give each its own unique expression and character. As a composer, I strive to incorporate these various elements into a musical style that is original and capitalizes on the best elements of each tradition.

I make music because it has inspired me and changed my life many times over, and its possibilities excite me perhaps more than anything else in the world. I am not interested in fame or popularity through music, I am simply trying to learn from the best of the best to understand what makes music so moving, and to hopefully someday stumble upon something that pushes the envelope and maybe inspires someone else somewhere down the line to take it a step further.
