Katharine Key

Katharine Key
Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, and Alanis Morissette walk into your living room, morph into one, and pick up a guitar. That’s Katharine Key. Soulful, quirky, and smart with an angelic voice, she’ll charm your socks off with her bleeding heart ballads and spunky acoustic pop. The piercing clarity of her lyrics will have you saying, "That song is about me."

In 2006, Katharine released her debut album, "Intone," collaborating on many of the arrangements with producer Kelly Snook and guitarist Andy Sperandeo. The lyrics in "Intone" are all excerpts from the Baha’i scriptures, and the music ranges in style from folk to jazz to pop and rock. "Intone" has earned her an enthusiastic following on six continents.

In 2013 Katharine released her second album, "what the fire is," a departure from "Intone" both in content and in musical style. Most of the songs in "what the fire is" are based on original lyrics rather than Bahá'í scripture. As such the album is much more personal. Musically the songs tend toward rock and hard folk and the production is more raw.

" 'what the fire is' has opened me up to new audiences," Katharine says. "I hope that it will offer me opportunities to reach more people. I feel a responsibility as an artist to be intentional with what I communicate. My aim is to uplift and inspire, and maybe help people to learn more about themselves through the music."
